To climb the mountain can be reached through the city semeru poor or Lumajang. From the terminal poor city we ride public transportation to the village Overlapping. Connected again with a jeep or truck Vegetables are widely available in the market behind Overlapping terminal, - up to post Ranu Pani.

By using a vegetable truck or jeep journey starts from Overlapping to Ranu Pani last village at the foot semeru. Here there are checkpoints, there are also stalls and cottages. Climbers can also spend the night in the guard post. In Ranu Pani also post there are two lakes namely lakes (ranu) pani (1 ha), and Ranu Regulo (0.75 ha). Located at an altitude of 2,200 meters above sea level.

For first-time climbers may be confused to find hiking trails, and just spinning in Ranu Pani, for it after arriving at the welcome gate, note continues to the left in the direction of the hill, do not follow the wide street towards the gardens of the population. In addition to the usual path through which the climbers, there is also a shortcut that is commonly used by local climbers, this path is very steep.

Initial path we've been through ramps, down the hillside vegetation is dominated by reeds. There are no signs pointing towards the road, but there are signs at every 100m distance measure, we follow this sign. There are many fallen trees and branches on their heads, so we must often bend the head, high keril bag very uncomfortable.

After walking about 5 km down the hillside overgrown with Edelweiss, we will arrive at Watu Rejeng. We will look very beautiful steep rock. We saw a very beautiful view over the valley and hills, overgrown pine forests and pine. Sometimes we can see the smoke from the top semeru. To reach Ranu Kumbolo we still have a distance of about 4.5 km.

Should rest and set up the tent when arriving at Ranu Kumbolo. There are lakes with water that is clean and has a very beautiful view, especially in the morning we saw the sunrise on the sidelines of the hill. There are many fish, sometimes wild grouse. Ranu Kumbolo located at an altitude of 2,400 m with an area of 14 ha.

From Ranu Kumbolo should prepare as much water as possible. Leaving Ranu Kumbolo we climb a steep hill, with beautiful views over the lake behind. In front of our hill vast grassland called oro-oro Ombo. Oro-oro Ombo surrounded by hills and mountains with beautiful views, vast meadow slopes overgrown with pine trees like in Europe. From behind Gn. Kepolo looks peak Gn. Semeru belching smoke wedus trash.

Next we entered the pine forest where sometimes we find birds and deer. There are many fallen trees so we had to step over or climb. This area is called Cemoro Cage.
Heading KALIMATI located at an altitude of 2,700 m, here we can set up a tent to rest and prepare physically. Then continue climbing in the early morning at 24.00. This postal vast grasslands on the edge of pine forest, so many available twigs to make a bonfire.
There are springs Source Mani, to the west (right) track KALIMATI forest edge with a distance of 1 hour commute. In KALIMATI and in Arcopodo there are many mountain mice when we set up a tent and wanted to sleep should store food in a safe place.

To go Arcopodo we turn left (East) runs about 500 meters, then turn right (south) slightly down meadow KALIMATI. Arcopodo within 1 hour of KALIMATI passing through a very steep pine forest, with erosive soils and dusty. We can also camping in Arcopodo, but less stable soil conditions and frequent landslides. We recommend using goggles and masks because a lot of fly ash. Arcopodo located at an altitude of 2.900m, Arcopodo is the last region of the vegetation on Mount Semeru, the rest we will pass through the dunes.

Arcopodo to the summit of Semeru takes 3-4 hours, passing through the dunes are very steep and easily degenerate. All luggage should we stay in Arcopodo or in KALIMATI. The climb to the top is done early in the morning at around 02.00 am from Arcopodo. Body in fresh condition, and effective use of water. Travelling on the day the terrain the more acute besides hot sand also will loose when exposed to heat. During the day the wind cendurung north toward the summit carrying toxic gases from the crater Jonggring Saloka.

At the peak of Mount Mahameru (Semeru) climbers are advised not to get to the crater Jonggring Saloko, also forbidden to climb from the south, because of the presence of toxic gases and lava flows. Mahameru dipuncak temperature range 4-10 degrees Celsius, at the height of the dry season minus 0 degrees Celsius, and found ice crystals. The weather is often foggy, especially in the afternoon, evening and night. The wind blowing in from December to January is often a storm.

Eruption Wedus Gembel every 15-30 minutes at peak of Mount Semeru, which is still active. In November 1997 Gn.Semeru erupted in 2990 times. During the day the wind direction toward the top, to avoid coming during the day at the top, because the toxic gases and eruption leads to the summit.
Eruption of white smoke, gray to black with a height of 300-800 meters eruption. The material that comes out in every eruption of ash, sand, gravel, stones and even hot coals very dangerous if the climber too close. In early 1994 hot lava flowing south slope Gn.Semeru and ask some fatalities, hot river scenery winding towards the sea becomes very interesting spectacle.
